The House On Mango Street
By: Sandra Cisneros
Esperanza Cordero is the main character in The House on Mango Street. Through out the book, Cisneros does a wonderful job of describing the hardships of growing up in Chicago as a Mexican- American family. The book starts out with talking aobut how the family has moved from place to place not living in a house they actualy owned. The parents would always describe a nice house they said would be there's someday. When the family moved to Mango Street. The house was nothing like she though it would be like, with it's small red figure, tiny steps, and beat up bricks, it was nothing close to what Esperanza imagined. Throughout the book, you hear Esperanza's thoughts about everything. With her, you experiance how she lives her life, and how she is mistreated. You feel what it's like to not have friends and the friends you do make, are only friends with you becaue there is no one else to hang out with. It was a stuggle for Esperanza, but at the end of the book she finds who she is and is happy to accept herself.

This book is college bound because it is a great story about a Latin- American family living in Chicago. It explains how the poor don't have the best lives and how confusing things can be. The author has a way of making you think into the situation occurig into the book, and then think of your own life where you have had experiences similar to those of the characters. This is a great book because it is an easy read, but still has a main point. It is a great story of a girl uncovering her true self.
